TOMÁŠ POLÁŠEK
Alias: Anaximandros
Researcher & ML Engineer
I am a PhD student and researcher at the Brno University of Technology and a core member of the CPhoto@FIT research group. In my current role, I serve as the architect for the GraphLocate project, where we focus on improving autonomous localization in natural environments.
My research focus integrates computer vision, human perception, and procedural generation to bridge geometric data with high-level semantic reasoning. My past work includes monocular depth estimation, perceptual studies for visual quality evaluation, and machine learning for time-series predictions. Currently, I am particularly interested in human perception and formalizing the "geographic grammar" of natural landscapes.
I also teach the Introduction to Game Development course, utilizing the Unity Engine to explore the game development. Rather than focusing on know-how that becomes obsolete, the course provides a structural overview of the industry. Each lecture examines a part of the process, from theoretical algorithms to creative procedures, ensuring students gain a holistic understanding to solve the unconventional problems inherent in games.
